GUANACASTE AIRPORT is the door to 25% of protected areas so when you come to Guanacaste you have to visit our NATIONAL PARKS.

As the GUANACASTE NATIONAL PARK that is part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 and is made up of 32,512 hectares.

In GUANACASTE, you can witness the cycle of life while observing the spawning of millions of turtles in OSTIONAL LIFE REFUGE. At the same time, you can walk on the treetops in the MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST.

You can fall in love with the most beautiful birds in the PALO VERDE NATIONAL PARK, sanctuary of millions of birds or dazzle yourself with the imposing crater of the ARENAL VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK and; from there, refresh your eyes with the majesty of the falls near than VOLCAN TENORIO NATIONAL PARK.

Among the most recognized are the following:

• Santa Rosa National Park: Located in the Norther side of Guanacaste, it was created in 1971 to commemorate and preserve the historic mansion and corrals of stone walls where the Battle of Santa Rosa took place (March 20, 1856). Also, it serves as protection for the dry tropical forest, pastures, mangroves and abundant wildlife, which includes some endangered species. It also has very beautiful beaches, including Playa Naranjo and the well-known Roca Bruja.
• Palo Verde National Park: The Palo Verde National Park is the wetland of excellence because it protects a portion of the Tempisque River. Palo Verde provides stopping points for migratory animals, especially between the months of January and February, giving the highest concentration of birds in Central America.
• Ostional Wildlife Refuge: It contains the second most important location for Baula turtle nesting in Costa Rica. These turtles arrive in numerous groups called arribadas, between July – November. The green turtle and others also use these territories as spawning grounds.
• Guanacaste National Park: It is located in the eastern part of the Interamerican Highway, in front of the Santa Rosa National Park. This project was founded in 1989 in order to protect the migratory routes of hundreds of animals that migrate to highlands during the dry seasons. In December 1999, the Guanacaste Conservation Area was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
