Health informs update of geographic areas considered at risk of yellow fever transmission
The Ministry of Health informs that as of January 11, 2025, vaccination against yellow fever is required for residents and foreigners traveling to and/or coming from the following destinations according to Ministerial Resolution No. DM-CB-3109-2018.
Vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory for all persons, traveling to the following countries:
People exempted from the vaccine are those who present any of the following contraindications:
- Persons under 9 months of age.
- Persons with severe egg allergy.
- Immunosuppression.
- Persons with current thymus disease or a history of suffering it.
Also, the following relative contraindications are considered subject to medical evaluation:
- Persons 60 years of age or older.
- Pregnant women.
- Nursing women.
- Hypersensitivity to gelatin.
- Asymptomatic HIV infection, with laboratory verification of adequate immune system function.
Starting April 1, 2022, the temporary migration measures established in the framework of the national health emergency due to COVID-19 are repealed.
Remember that:
A return flight ticket is needed when entering Costa Rica. The immigration officer will ask for it upon your arrival.
- Your country of origin determines the amount of days available to stay in Costa Rica as a tourist.
- In some cases, the Immigration official may request you show economic solvency for your stay in the country.
- Even with a 90-day tourist visa, the immigration official determines the duration of your stay as allowed by your passport.
